If you cannot be patient, don't start a training session. Your dogs will respond to patience and will lose interest if they feel you are getting frustrated.

Make sure your dog is eating a healthy diet. The effects a bad diet has on your dog extend further than you might think. Not only is this bad for their health, but it can influence their behavior towards you and their environment. A proper diet can affect how well they react to training.

If you catch your puppy chewing on something, firmly say no, then remove the item from him. Switch out the inappropriate object for an item that belongs to your puppy to allow him to realize what is and is not okay.

When you are training your dog away from chewing inappropriately, remember to set him up for success. In addition to correcting undesirable behavior, you will also be protecting your dog from harm. Some items can be choking hazards and should be kept away from your dog's reach. Examples of hazards would be: nylons, household chemical products, and hairbrushes.

Before you train your puppy, teach him his name and bond with him. Repeat his name regularly, so he will learn to come to you when he hears it. These are the initial words your puppy must learn. Spending lots of time will create a strong bond with your puppy, and will lead to unbreakable trust. When he trusts you, he ends up being more responsive to all sorts of training.

Your dog should always be able to identify which behaviors are acceptable and which are not. You will need help from everyone in the family to teach this. It will instantly undo all of your hard work!

If you dog begins displaying negative behavior out of the blue, you should make him an appointment to go and see the vet to rule out any illnesses that could cause the behavior. There are some illnesses or health conditions that may cause the dog to act out. This behavior may be his way of telling you that there is something wrong with him.

When house training your pup, you should adhere to a regular schedule of feeding and elimination. Then you will be aware when your dog needs to go outside to use the bathroom. Being consistent will teach the dog to hold it until it is time to go outside.

When training a puppy to use a crate it is important to take your time and start with only a few steps at a time. When they are comfy with the open door, try closing it and feeding them treats via the wires. Keep the gate closed for short periods of time, and work your way up to longer times. If your pet seems upset or agitated, you may need to slow down.

Many dog owners are surprised to find that dog training is a much easier and faster process than they had expected. So if your relationship with your pooch is feeling a bit strained, try out some of these tips.
