It's Easy To Start Dog Training At Home

It's Easy To Start Dog Training At Home

Having a well-trained dog can provide your home with a happy balance. A well mannered dog shows what both of you know and expect from the other. With a trained dog, you won't worry when you're together in public, you have visitors or he is home without you. While the process takes considerable time and effort, training your dog to respect commands, do tricks, and behave properly will make it all worthwhile.

Accidents will happen sometimes when you house train your pet. Clean accidents right away to speed up training. If you don't clean accidents up quickly, your pet may smell the mess and eliminate in the same spot again. Look into different cleaners, especially enzyme cleaners, available at any pet store.

Training a new dog should be a family activity in which everyone participates. There will probably be a main trainer, but having everyone in the house enforce the same rules helps the dog associate the rules with the house instead of the person doing most of the training.

A helpful bit of training advice is to be aware of your dog's taste preferences. By giving your dog this food, they will want to follow whatever you teach them. Pay close attention to his response after you offer a reward.

You can teach a dog a lot of things by repeating exercises and rewarding good behavior. You should show the dog the things it has to do, then create a routine and give the dog rewards during practice sessions. This is, if not the only, certainly the best method for effective dog training. Demonstrate this through repetitive behaviors and consistent rewards.

Teaching a puppy their name is one of the first steps to undertake and creates a lasting bond. Use their name often, and then teach them how to come to you when called. It is a good idea to have your puppy learn these words first. Spend a lot of time getting to know your pup, and building a loving relationship with him so he knows who to trust. Over time, the puppy will be able to learn more advanced training.

When training your puppy, avoid tug-of-war type games. Aggressive games promote aggressive behaviors, such as biting. Don't let this behavior take root by avoiding these games until the dog is older.

When training your dog, make it fun for the both of you. You can build a strong bond with dog by playing with the dog, and that in turn causes positive reactions during training. Although training itself is fun, it is good to spend time each day just playing with your dog because you can.

Most of all, dog training is about establishing the rules of the relationship, and, just as with a person, you will enjoy each other so much more now that these rules have been established. Remember that reinforcement is important if you want your dog to retain his new skills. Provide refresher courses when needed and continue to correct bad behavior. When your dog has a solid foundation in the basics, his potential is unlimited.
