Can't Afford A Trainer? With These Tips You Can Train Your Dog At Home!
You can train your dog to the point where he will not bark excessively, growl or exhibit aggressive behavior. If not trained completely out of a dog, they can at least be corrected with the following information in this article. A dog can be turned into the ideal pet with the right training.
It is best to pick a phrase for potty training your dog, and use it consistently. When you take your puppy outside, say "go potty" to them so they will eventually associate the phrase with going to the bathroom outside.
Consistency is king when it comes to dog training, not only from you but also from each family member with whom your dog interacts daily interactions. Dogs will learn quicker from training that has all people treating them the same way. If the dog is exposed to multiple training methods, it will become confused and unsure about how to act.
Your dog needs to stay active during all phases of his life. Dogs are not sedentary animals by nature. They need to be active, so they can be happy and healthy. Try enrolling in an agility course, going for a run, or practicing Frisbee skills with your dog. Keep your dog well entertained and you will eliminate many of the common problems, such as chewing on shoes.
You must begin your relationship with the dog as the boss for any training to be effective. The dog will have little respect for you and it won't obey if you do not show that you are the one in charge. On walks with your dog, you should lead him and not the other way around.
Training is a great way to help your dog with separation anxiety. If you dog starts barking or running wild as soon as you head for the door, separation anxiety is the likely culprit. You can fix this problem by giving your dog some kind of activity to occupy his time while you're gone. Allay his fears and apprehensions by showering him with compassionate affection.
Try training a dog to clench a plush toy in his mouth. Every time he does it, give him a snack and use the clicker. After a few tries you should allow the dog to pick up the toy on his own. When he is successful, click him off and give him a treat. Also, rewards should only be given if the toy remains in the dog's mouth.
You do not want to use wee-wee pads when potty training your dog. The potty pads or the wee-wee pads often leak which can leave enzymes behind that will confuse the puppy as to where they should be going potty. They can also convince your dog that anything similar in appearance is also an acceptable surface to use for bathroom purposes. It is better to teach your dog that outdoors at all times is the best choice.
It should be clear that training a dog really is doable for everyone. Proper knowledge and consistent follow through is the key to successful training. It is possible to train your dog successfully by yourself.
