How To Train Your Dog Effectively
Perhaps you are starting to wonder why you wanted a dog in the first place after a few incidents. With some consistent training, you can transform your rambunctious dog into an intelligent and attentive companion.
Many dog bites come from a source of fear. This occurs whenever dogs feel trapped, threatened, and frightened. Never use physical punishment as a way to discipline your dog. The dog's natural instincts will be to fight back. By doing this, pleasing you will be one of your dog's life goals as it will see you as the pack leader.
Dogs who have separation anxiety should always also have ties with other people. It will relieve your pet's stress and anxiety if it has other important human relationships in its life.
Consistency is the key to dog training. Keep a list of commands to use, and make sure everyone who might need to command the dog knows them. Anyone needing to handle your dog should follow the same program, using reward for good behavior and taking care to never reward bad behavior. Having different people respond differently can confuse the dog and make training more difficult.
If you in the crate training phase of your training program, you can use a few techniques to speed it up. If your puppy seems reluctant about entering the crate, place a chew toy inside and close the door to the kennel. Your dog will want the bone and will be unable to resist entering the crate. After they have entered the crate, be sure to give them praise so they understand that they have done a good thing.
Use dog treats that are tasty for your dog, and are of high value in order to obtain great results. Even cheese or lunch meat can be a great motivator.
Do not tie a dog up near another dog, or dogs. If chains get intertwined, the dogs can get hurt. A larger dog could cause a tangle so bad that the smaller dog could be choked by the leash.
Dogs should always feel safe and secure while training them. When a dog is insecure about their safety, they could lash out with bad behavior. To avoid this, your dog should be housed in a safe environment.
Use the dog's name as much as you can to make sure it pays attention. You puppy will develop the association between his name being called, and him needing to pay attention to what you are telling him. A short name which sounds distinct from many other words is preferable.
Don't give up when you're training your dog. Constant reinforcement and praise are essential when maintaining the training your dog learned in how to behave. Taking care of your dog must include instituting a training plan, as well as meeting his food and shelter needs.
Many dog owners are quite surprised at how quickly they can achieve good results with even a basic dog training routine. Consider giving some of the ideas outlined above a try, in order to improve the bond between you and your dog.
