Tame Your Puppies Wild Side For A Happier Household
Every dog should have some sort of training to help correct poor behaviors and to adapt to their new living environment. Read on for some ways to get started training your dog.
Mentally stimulating your dog is important to its health and happiness. Going for walks, giving them puzzle toys, and playing directly with them will keep them occupied and content. Without proper stimulation, bored dogs will find things to do, such as chewing up drywall, clothing or furniture!
You should not take your problems out on your pet. Unless your dog has done something that warrants scolding, you should always take on a positive tone during your interactions.
If you don't monitor treat-style training rewards, your dog might become overweight. You can't ignore the calories that treats contain, though many individuals do.
The more active your dog is, the healthier it will be. Dogs are easily bored. Bored dogs are harder to train. Your dog needs proper exercise to function to his highest potential. Get out for some long walks and runs with your dog.
Introduce new animals to one another very slowly. Keep your current pet in mind, if you are considering adopting a new pet. For optimal bonding, select a new pet whose personality is similar to that of your current pet.
There are a lot of tricks you can teach your dog to do; a common one is training him to hold a toy in his mouth without chewing it. When he puts the toy around his mouth, use a training clicker and offer him a treat. Once he's got that down, only reward him every five times he completes the action. When he does this, click and reward. After that, only give the reward if he does hold the toy in his mouth.
Do not spend too much time in any one training session with your dog. A long, uninterrupted training period is going to exhaust your dog's attention. Try to keep the initial sessions limited to about 10 minutes.
Keep your dogs tied at a safe distance from each other. The dogs chains could get tangled up and cause harm to the dogs as they struggle to get free. If one dog happens to be much larger than the other, the small dog could get tangled to the point that it could choke to death.
The most important part of dog training is to ensure that dog know its name. If you want to maintain control of your dog, your dog needs to know how to respond to you. You should aim to call your dog's name out around ten times a day. Also, don't punish your dog if he comes over when you call him by name.
Don't play tug of war with your puppy. Tug-of-war, along with wrestling and chasing games, teach the puppy to be dominant and to bite at you. Once your puppy is older and well trained, you can play rough games.
Disobedient or untrained dogs can easily make a mess of your house and threaten your sense of well-being. If you apply these tips, you should be well prepared to train your dog efficiently.
