You should not expect your dog to think like a human, they do not have that ability. Doing so will leave one sadly disappointed by the results they receive. However, you are about to learn how to properly treat your dog so you can train it.

If you want success in training your dog, you must make sure that your dog has a good activity level throughout his life. Dogs are designed to keep busy and active. It is important for them to run around and be active to live a full and happy life. Train your dog for agility, jog with it or take it to the park. Dogs thrive on constant motion, so don't let yours get idle.

Walking on a leash is a big step in your dog training program. This will ensure both his safety and yours when you take him on walks.

Wearing out a puppy with too much training and information, will be extremely counterproductive. Your puppy has a very short attention span, so start out with short sessions, and try to keep things enjoyable for both you and your pup. If you try to do too much too fast, he will associated it as a negative experience and will resist in the future.

If your dog has separation anxiety, he needs to have ties to others beside just yourself. The dog needs to have other people around to get rid of its fixation with you.

Make rewards something truly special, by using his favorite treats. A good example would be a normally forbidden treat, like little pieces of hotdogs or cheese.

Positively encourage your dog without using treats. Treats are effective for teaching proper behaviors. You most likely do not have treats available at any given time, especially when training is not in progress. Giving your dog physical attention and praise will reinforce his positive behavior, as well as save you money and him calories.

A clicker works well when training most dogs. By associating the clicking noise with positive rewards, you can make a clicker an easy and effective tool. Use the clicker and give your dog a treat immediately several times a day. In short order, the animal will have a pleasant association with the clicking sound, and the clicker will be very helpful in conveying what is considered to be proper conduct.

Dog training program should be a fun and rewarding experience. Keep the sessions between 10-15 minutes, as this is about the attention span of most dogs. Rewards should be plentiful and varied. Make sure to shower your dog with praises when he performs well; dogs love it! Making training fun makes listening fun, too!

You don't want your dog to have to decide whether or not you should be listened to. If you are not willing to force a particular demand on your dog, do not give that demand at all.

After learning some helpful hints on how to get through to your dog and train it to behave to your expectations you simply need to follow what you have learned. After changing your dogs behavior to fit with the tips suggested you can properly train your dog.
